The delicious food tour of Athens
Do you want to eat real Greek food at traditional taverns?
Then this is the tour you should do, in the non-touristy areas, with the help of our expert guide.
The wide range of the Greek cuisine will unfold on your table, while you learn about its secrets – the fresh ingredients, spices and, most importantly, the Greek olive oil.
Sweet delicacies like the honey-covered loukoumades or the icing-sugar-covered bougatsa are a ‘must’ to try, if you like sweets.
Still, there is also the tiropita, feta cheese, plus the Greek olives that you can enjoy.
An “off the beaten track” tour
This tour will take you away from the typical Athenian taverns, usually found around touristic areas.
Our expert guide will take you to various specialty food stores, where you will be able to see and taste real traditional Greek food.
You will taste the difference of the naturally grown vegetables and fruits, cultivated in the mild Greek climate, which brings out their aroma and flavor. As you taste various dishes, you will be amazed by the aroma of the many herbs used, bringing out the best from the marvelous dishes served. The herbs used are mostly gathered from the Greek countryside, like thyme, oregano and many more.
As we tour, we will enter the central food market area of Athens, Varvakios food market, where you can enjoy walking around just looking at people shopping and bargaining, with an impressive mixture of vegetables, fruit, fish, meat and spices on the many stalls in the market place.
With our guide you will soon be strolling and discovering that the Greek cuisine is not only souvlaki, moussaka or Greek salad, but it is rich in scent and flavor, evolved over the thousands of years.
A very important part of the Greek cuisine is the use of olive oil, in most dishes. Olive oil is a main ingredient in the Mediterranean diet, known all over the world for its quality and health benefits.
Finally our tour ends at approx. 13:00 (1:00 pm), close to the Monastiraki Metro Station.
